The Ministry of Textiles is concerned about the stagnation of garment exports to the United States

23rd October 2021, Mumbai:

The Ministry of Textiles (MoT) is worried about India's sluggish garment exports to the United States and plans to speak with the Apparel Export Promotion Council about it.

Despite the fact that it is frequently stated that China is leaving space, India has not received a large part.

In a recent virtual conference, Upendra Pratap Singh, Secretary, MoT, stated that India has a fair playing field in exporting to the United States, despite the fact that India's garment exports to the United States have not expanded much.

When comparing statistics from January to August 2021 (provided by OTEXA) to the same period in 2019, China's proportion of garment exports to the US has decreased by 22.48 percent from 31 percent, while Vietnam's part has increased from 16 percent to 19 percent.

Bangladesh's growth rate increased from 7% to 8.57 percent.

Even Pakistan's clothing exports have increased from 1.7% in 2019 to 2.7% in 2021. India's share, on the other hand, has recently risen from 5.1 percent to 5.26 percent.

When comparing 2018 and 2021 data, India saw a 5% decline, whereas it experienced a 7% decline when comparing 2019 and 2021 data.
