Sales at India Handloom Brand (IHB) are likely to see two-fold rise in the current financial year. IHB is an endorsement to quality of the handloom products in terms of raw material, processing, embellishments, weaving design and other parameters, besides social and environmental compliances.
The products include natural dyed fabrics and saris, organic cotton fabrics, cotton and silk saris and branded handloom products. The office of Development Commissioner for Handlooms has also engaged retail stores for selling India Handloom Brand products under a partnership framework for IHB retail stores. These stores have set aside an exclusive area for showcasing and selling IHB branded products only.
Handloom products are sold more during winter. During 2016-17, India Handloom Brand product sales were to the tune of Rs 95.63 crores. During the first two months of the current fiscal (April-May), the combined sales figure was Rs 29.42 crores. With average sales of Rs 15 crores a month, sales are expected to reach at least Rs 180 crores in the current fiscal.
India Handloom Brand was launched in 2015. Handloom fabrics and handloom weavers form an integral part of the culture, heritage and tradition of India. The industry makes a sizable contribution to GDP and provides employment to lakhs of people.
