The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) plans to sell 'Made-in-Varanasi' Pashmina products for the first time ever through its showrooms, outlets, and e-commerce store.
Vinai Kumar Saxena, Chairman, KVIC launched the new product range during an event in the city. The Pashminas are made by Khadi weavers in Varanasi.

Their manufacturing increases Varanasi’s Khadi turnover by around Rs 25 crore. The project will also create improved employment opportunities for Varanasi’s weavers who will be able to earn around Rs 1,300 for weaving a Pashmina.
KVIC has also opened a new Pashmina wool processing unit in Leh-Ladakh.
The KVIC is charged with the planning, promotion, organisation and implementation of programs for the development of Khadi and other village industries in the rural areas in coordination with other agencies engaged in rural development wherever necessary.

Its functions also comprise building up of a reserve of raw materials and implements for supply to producers, creation of common service facilities for processing of raw materials as semi-finished goods, and provisions of facilities for marketing of KVIC products apart from organisation of training of artisans engaged in these industries and encouragement of co-operative efforts amongst them.
