Contemporary ethnic and fusion wear segments have led to a huge boost in knitwear category. “The introduction of new sustainable fibers with other innovative developments has increased the scope of the market,” observes Amit Jain, Managing Director, Shingora. “The segment, influenced by global catwalks and fashion shows as well as Hollywood movies and events, is gaining popularity with newer innovations and increasing penetration of digital un,” he adds.
Innovations boost sector growth
Shingora offers mufflers, scarves, ponchos, capes and shrugs that can be worn with any attire or as a garment itself. “These are lightweight and ideal for a summer getaway,” notes Jain. Ranging from apparels to all types of accessories, the women’s knitwear segment is vast. It is much more attractive than menswear. Influenced by European as well as sportswear segments, it can also be classified as a premium segment,” he adds. With people opting for comfort over style, casual clothing is preferred in India. “Knitwear developed in cotton, modal and viscose yarn satisfies consumer’s need for comfort, thus increasing its popularity,” Jain observes.
Online retail augments sale
Jain points out, “online retail has given a boost not only to knitwear but all types of textile businesses in recent years. Easy returns policy encourages customers to buy different products. Also, the details and reviews posted by brands increase overall clarity about the product thus helping sales.”
