Weaveindia has launched a new sub brand Akalico which offers over 30 different styles ranging from placket saris to satin georgette dupattas. Translating to untouched by time in Pali, Akalico aims to create designs that are chic, clean, seamless and something you choose to wear every day. First hand painted and then digitally printed, these motifs are primarily inspired from the Pichwai artwork. They include everything from Padma (lotus) motifs, pearl-studded borders, garden motifs, Mughal jharokas and roses on these saristeresting silhouettes like an ecru suit with placket detailing and scallop edges, hand-embroidered sari borders.
Akalico has an active design team of four artists who are NIFT graduates. Its fabrics are sourced from Bengaluru and Surat. It also uses eco-printing techniques where the dyes and inks are all eco-friendly.
The brand uses a pastel palette with a few pop elements in it. Tuscan yellows, teal, vintage pink, and muted blues are some colours that dominate the palette.
