JJ Valaya: S/S 2022 couture collection
21 March 2022, Mumbai:
JJ Valaya on his spring-summer 2022 couture collection — Rumeli
The Summer Saga About Desugner JJ Valaya (born 8 October 1967) is a noted Indian fashion designer and couturier from New Delhi, India.
He founded the House of Valaya, a luxury fashion and lifestyle house in 1992, along with his brother TJ Singh. A founding member of the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) and the first global brand ambassador of Crystal giant Swarovski, he has been designing for men and women, and has bridal and evening collections in addition to day-wear and ready-to-wear for over 20 years.
With Rumeli The story of Alika and Ika is a different context and it has nothing to do with only Rumeli. It is literally he giving life to two people who are part of me and a figment of my imagination.

These were actually jackets we had created some years back and we have given them human form by making them living siblings.
He is going to make these two girls travel across the world... and they will show the collection through their eyes.
Rumeli per se is part of the countries he has been fascinated by, India... and all the countries along the spice route and the Spice Route.
These kinds of civilisations and cultures, with their legacy, have always been fascinating.

He always enjoys going back in time, into different cultures and discovering a whole new language, and reinterpreting it.
This is his third interpretation of the Ottoman Empire.
There is just so much to explore.
All his collections are an ode to where we come from and where we have to go.
In the world of technology that we are blissfully trapped in, we are losing perspective of where we come from.
He is trying in my own little way to discover as much as he can, reinterpret that so that it relates to a modern generation.
