Fast moving consumer goods business Metro Cash & Carry, which opened its first small-scale store in Tumkur, plans to open six more small-scale stores over the coming year to reach more customers.
Metro Cash & Carry, the Indian arm of German wholesaler Metro AG, plans to move from just large-scale, mainly business to business stores to incorporate small-scale business to customer stores into its retail strategy. The business’ first small scale store measures 25,000 square feet which around half the size of its large-scale stores.
Metro’s new Tumkur store will employ around 200 people around Tumkur, Karnataka. The store will focus on value products and Metro Cash & Carry private label brands which include a range of apparel offerings. This strategy is designed to help the store to reach break-even swiftly, according to Mediratta.
Metro Cash & Carry currently runs 27 stores in India with a strong presence in South India. The business retails a range of personal care, fashion and lifestyle, and homeware products as well as groceries.
