The Fashion Design Council of India has opened entries for the next season of Circular Design Challenge. Circular Design Challenge, billed as India’s largest award for sustainable fashion, is looking for India’s next crop of designers who will lead sustainable innovation in the industry.
This year, applicants have been challenged to find design solutions for managing waste and pollution to ensure the regeneration of biodiversity while making a social impact. Winners will feature at the upcoming season of FDCI-Lakme Fashion Week, a collaboration which came about during the pandemic. The Fashion Design Council of India has a tradition of preserving the arts and crafts of India.
The pandemic is taking away the only source of sustenance of talented weavers in rural areas. FDCI has also been running humanitarian initiatives to aid craftspeople affected by the pandemic.
It had some years back partnered with Jharcraft, an organization that promotes sericulture, handloom, and other allied activities in the rural areas of Jharkhand, with a special emphasis on local artisans and underprivileged sections of the state.
Jharcraft hopes to provide a platform for artisans and weavers to merchandise their own products through the maximum utilization of natural resources and the manpower of Jharkhand.
