INDIA SIZE: India gears to roll out it's 'Swadeshi Size Chart

17 November 2021, Mumbai:

Buying branded clothes could be cumbersome as certain brands follow the UK size while others follow the USA size as the body frame of Indian men and women vary from their counterparts in the UK and the US.

After having completed the sizing process in New Delhi, it is being carried out with full steam now in Mumbai by NIFT, having completed in two malls – Orion mall and Inorbit Mall. Currently, they are rapidly executing the process in R-City Mall, Ghatkopar in this city. INDIA SIZE is expected to roll out sometime later next year. ANI

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) has launched a national sizing survey to develop India’s first country-specific size chart, which will give Indians clothes that fit better.

“Clothes that are tailored following a size chart specially developed for the Indian body size and shape will make Indians look more beautiful and feel more confident. It would also lead to more business and lower rejections,” SaradaMuraleedharan, Director General, NIFT.

The survey for mapping will collate basic data like gender, locality and age. The first phase of the survey will look into a size chart for 15-65 years of age, while the second phase will map sizes for children, as well as for footwear. The entire scanning process will take around 15 minutes per scan.

NIFT will set up full body scanners in Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Shillong. NIFT is planning to rope in industry players such as e-commerce giants and others for the survey.

The data will be treated as property of the Ministry of Textiles. It will need to be updated after 10 years, though the next survey can be done at a much smaller level.
