Patagonia purchases Rs. 1.08 crore worth of khadi denim fabric

Patagonia, a well-known fashion company located in the United States, has sourced over 30,000 meters of khadi denim fabric from India for Rs. 1.08 crore for their apparel.

Before submitting the order, Patagonia had a worldwide third-party assessor inspect several areas of khadi denim manufacture, including spinning, weaving, carding, dyeing, salary payments, worker age verification, and so on, at a khadi-making institution in Gondal, Rajkot.

Patagonia's purchase of khadi denim resulted in an increase of 1.80 lakh man-hours, or 27,720 man-days, of labor for khadi craftspeople. The order was placed in October 2020, and it was completed in 12 months, as planned, in October 2021.

It's worth noting that KVIC's new program is not only providing more man-hours to Gujarat's khadi craftspeople, but it's also bringing the Prime Minister's ambition of 'local to global' to fruition.

It comes as a result of a deal between the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) and Ahmedabad-based textile giant Arvind Mills to sell Khadi denim items throughout the world.

According to KVIC's official press release, the company reached a deal with Arvind Mills Limited in July 2017 to trade khadi denim products over the world. Arvind Mills has been acquiring a substantial quantity of khadi denim fabric from KVIC-certified khadi colleges in Gujarat every year since then.

"Khadi denim is the world's only handmade denim fabric, and it is extremely popular both in India and internationally."

"Due to the excellent quality, comfort, organic, and eco-friendly properties of the fabric, Khadi denim is rapidly being adopted by prominent fashion designers," stated Vinai Kumar Saxena, Chairman, KVIC.
