Making a striking return to the runway, India's most iconic designers, Rina Dhaka showcased her latest collection at The Afra World, a luxury fashion confluence in Dubai. A rising platform for South Asian luxury, this event provides a powerful stage for designers like Dhaka.

Niti Gupta, Founder & Creative Director, The AFRA World and Curator, NIFT Alumni Networking Group, avers, platforms like The Afra World create space for emerging voices to be heard globally - opening new markets, new narratives, and redefining what luxury means today.

Inspired by the Sahara Desert, Dhaka’s latest collection is an ode to both fragility and power. Working with an earthy palette of ecru, ivory, and sand, the designer channeled the ever-changing moods of the desert - from sunlit shimmer to soft shadows. The collection is inspired by the vastness and colors of the dunes, the sparkle of sun on sand, explains Dhaka.

Known for her commitment to sustainable design, Dhaka incorporated repurposed bias-cut silks, organic cottons, and even cording waste dried and reworked into decorative detailing. Each piece took upwards of 100 hours to create - showcasing luxury, not just in look, but in the labor and ethical considerations behind it.

Dhaka’s standout pieces, including her intricately embroidered Desert Rose gowns, not only celebrate femininity but also pay homage to traditional Indian craftsmanship with a modern, global lens. The designs use age-old Indian techniques, but its silhouettes are made for the woman who travels effortlessly between cultures, Dhaka shares.

Gupta states, events like The Afra World don’t just showcase collections - they change perceptions, spark collaborations, and help legacy designers like Dhaka reframe their stories for a new generation.
