Bhumi Pednekar walks the ramp for Ritu Kumar at India Couture Week
Bollywood actor Bhumi Pednekar walked the ramp as the showstopper to showcase veteran designer Ritu Kumar’s latest collection titled, ‘Threads of Time: Reimagined at the India Couture Week.
Celebrated for her unwavering commitment to championing traditional Indian craftsmanship through her signature designs, Kumar remains a formidable presence in Indian fashion, Her ‘Threads of Time: Reimagined’ collection seamlessly blends bridal and Indian wear with fusion silhouettes, striking a perfect balance between timeless tradition and modern versatility.
A hallmark of this collection is Kumar's aesthetic, intricate gold embroidery intercepted in a diverse range of garments - from contemporary cuts to loose, comfortable silhouettes. The runway was dominated by a rich palette, led by classic bridal reds and expanded into vibrant hues common in Indian wardrobes, such as fuchsia, baby blue, yellow, and mauve. Accessories were kept minimal, allowing the intricate craftsmanship to take center stage.
The musical curation mirrored the collection's theme of heritage meets modernity, featuring a striking contrast of soul-stirring Sufi classics like ‘Aik Alif’ by Saeen Zahoor and "Chhap Tilak Sab Chhini Re" alongside upbeat contemporary tracks.
Pednekar made a powerful statement in a gold-embroidered lehenga, styled with emerald studs, bold lipstick, and a trailing cape in place of a traditional dupatta. This look offered a fresh take on the modern Indian bride. Pednekar praised the outfit as ‘beautiful, rich, comfortable and just timeless,’ reflecting her personal connection to fashion as a powerful form of self-expression and a means to "question the status quo."
Presented by Hyundai India in association with Reliance Brands, the prestigious fashion gala,concludes in New Delhi on July 30.
