Alternative marketplaces diversify online festive fashion retail

The long-standing market dominance of Walmart-backed Myntra and Flipkart in India's online festive fashion sales faces structural disruption as price-conscious consumers spread spending across competing channels. Industry order data reveals, the duo's combined festive fashion order share contracted from 89 per cent in 2025 to 76.8 per cent in 2026. Regional consumers increasingly prioritize value, platform choice, and multi-channel convenience over legacy marketplace loyalty.

Marketplace diversification alters category dynamics

Overall online festive retail order volumes grew 21 per cent Y-o-Y, supported by average discounts rising to 46 per cent across fashion segments. Footwear led category adoption, capturing 52.7 per cent of all apparel and lifestyle orders. However, expanding order share from AJIO, Amazon Fashion, and JioMart highlights a clear transition toward platform-agnostic shopping behavior, particularly in Tier-II and Tier-III markets where order volumes surged over 23 per cent.

Consumer channel switching during high-volume sales indicates that exclusive selection is no longer enough, states Radhika Sen, Head-Retail Strategy, Apex Insights. Success in festive retail now demands unified inventory visibility and strict discount parities across all major digital channels.

Expanding regional fulfillment infrastructure

Flipkart and Myntra represent the fashion and lifestyle digital retail vertical of Walmart Inc. in India. Operating as premier e-commerce platforms across apparel, footwear, and accessories, the business units focus on expanding regional fulfillment infrastructure and localized brand portfolios to maintain high single-digit order volume growth despite rising market competition.
