Following a strategic Rs 25 crore funding round from BlueStone in February, lab-grown diamond (LGD) specialist Ethera has accelerated its physical expansion, hitting a milestone of nine retail stores in under a year. The brand’s latest launches in high-intent urban hubs - including Indiranagar and Electronic City in Bengaluru, and DLF Midtown in New Delhi - mark a tactical shift to capture the ‘smart luxury’ segment currently valued at approximately $33.5 billion globally.
Capitalizing on the 80% pricing delta
The rapid scaling comes as the Indian market hits a critical inflection point in 2026, where the price gap between LGDs and natural diamonds has widened to nearly 80 per cent for comparable specifications. This delta is fundamentally altering consumption patterns among Ethera’s core demographic of millennial and Gen Z professionals. Everything we are building starts with a deep understanding of the customer and the long-term opportunity, states Sharad Arora, Co-Founder, Ethera. By integrating an aggressive design pipeline of 200 new monthly SKUs with a 40-point quality assessment, the brand is successfully transitioning diamonds from occasional heirlooms to versatile, everyday fine jewelry.
Omnichannel synergies and regulatory trust
A significant challenge for D2C jewelry remains the ‘trust gap’ in high-value transactions. Ethera is mitigating this through a ‘digital-first’ retail format that uses brick-and-mortar touchpoints to provide physical validation for its IGI-certified inventory. This hybrid model allows the brand to maintain leaner operations while scaling across the Delhi NCR and Bengaluru micro-markets. As India moves toward becoming a global LGD consumption hub, Ethera’s expansion into Tier-I metros serves as a blueprint for domestic brands aiming to align ethical sourcing with the operational rigor required for the 2026 retail landscape.
Founded in 2024, Bengaluru-based Ethera offers modern, IGI-certified lab-grown diamond jewelry set in hallmarked gold. Backed by BlueStone, the brand targets urban professionals with ‘everyday luxe’ designs. Ethera currently operates nine stores across Bengaluru and the NCR, with plans to double its physical footprint by late 2026.
