Orient Craft has reopened its Ranchi unit after an almost 20-month hiatus (Jharkhand). Production has begun in the Hotwar unit, and the Irba unit will follow suit soon.

Jharkhand's Secretary-Industries, Pooja Singhal, stated that the state is doing all possible to promote the textile sector so that local youth may find work in the state.

When the corporation shut down its operations in Ranchi, about 5,000 people lost their employment. According to Gaurav Sehgal, CEO, production was halted since there were no orders due to the lockdown; however, production has already resumed at a low level, and once both operations are operating at full capacity, roughly 10,000 employees will be employed.

Orient Craft, a once-dominant textile exporter, was the first to set up garment production in Ranchi. Following Orient Craft, Arvind Ltd., Matrix Clothing, and a few more major firms set up shop in Ranchi.

Jharkhand's existing textile policy has also been extended for another year. The policy, which was set to expire on September 19, 2021, has been extended to September 18, 2022. And new policies will be established in the next year.
