For the Sivi line, Niketa Thacker collaborates with Gujarat weavers

8th September 2021, Mumbai:

With her brand Sivi's new womenswear line "Panjo Kutch," designer Niketa Thacker has worked with craftsmen across Gujarat to showcase their work and assist lockdown recovery.

Thacker stated on her company Sivi's Facebook page that she developed the collection particularly to assist artists to recover from recent lockdowns, which placed a huge economic hardship on the state's weaving and handicraft community. With the womenswear designs, Thacker also offered craftsmen artistic latitude and encouraged them to express themselves via the collection.

Panjo Kutch includes traditional ornamental patterns and a rich color palette of navy blue, deep red, burnt orange, magenta, and black. Subtle mirror work nods to Gujarat's fondness for mirror-embellished clothing, while long skirts recall the state's traditional attire.

All of the fabrics used in Sivi's most recent collection were acquired from local craftsmen in Gujarat. According to Thacker, the collection debuted in the brand's flagship shop in Ahmedabad, and some of the craftsmen who worked on it currently work for the boutique. Thacker comes from Gujarat's Kutch region, and before becoming a fashion designer, he worked as a criminal lawyer.
