According to sources, the fire started in a boiler at the factory's rear. The fire started in the boiler and quickly spread throughout the plant. Despite their best efforts, the personnel were unable to put out the fire.

The fire department was subsequently summoned, and fire tenders arrived within minutes. According to fire authorities, the boiler has a capacity of 3,500 liters of oil, and the fire will not be controlled unless the oil flow is stopped.

The fire was contained to a single area of the factory, the boiler. The fire was started by a spark in motor wires, which was quickly put out with oil. According to fire authorities, they attempted to put out the flames with water, but they spread too quickly, forcing them to deploy foam.

Three fire tenders were stationed on the scene, and five or six additional tenders were dispatched. The oil was soaked in a rice husk, which was kept near the boiler. Fires in garment factories are common in Ludhiana, one of the largest knitted textile production centers.
