Lee Cooper's IP rights in India have been purchased by Iconix Lifestyle

06 November 2021, Mumbai:

Iconix Lifestyle India Private Limited, a 50/50 joint venture between India's Reliance Brands Limited and Iconix Brand Group Inc, has added legendary British brand Lee Cooper to its portfolio.

Iconix Lifestyle will be able to extend Lee Cooper's footprint in India by allowing the brand's distribution across all retail channels and boosting marketing and brand management as a result of the purchase.

Lee Cooper is a multi-category, dual-gender brand with a presence in 126 countries, 7,000 points of sale, and over 2 million social followers. It was founded in 1908 with a denim legacy.

Lee Cooper, the original British denim brand, began as a major producer of workwear at a small business in London's East End, producing uniforms for the British Troops in WW1 and WW2. The brand's focus had shifted from military gear to fashion and denim by 1945.

Lee Cooper's goods and collections are now designed with denim at the forefront and fashion at the core.

Lee Cooper's forward-thinking denim artisans refine every stitch, rivet, and wash to perfectly suit its powerful 18–30-year-old market. Apparel for men, women, and children, footwear, bags, accessories, watches, swimwear, workwear, eyewear, fragrance, homeware, and personal devices are just some of the areas covered.

"The most notable purchase for the JV is Lee Cooper, which has a long history and unrivaled importance in the Indian market. Darshan Mehta, MD of Reliance Brands Limited and director on the board of Iconix Lifestyle India Private Limited, stated, "It's the go-to denim brand that liberalised India grew up with, and its affinity among consumers offers us a great basis to recreate the brand in the nation."

"Gaining Lee Cooper's IP rights matches with our long-term strategic approach to developing our brand presence in India," said Bob Galvin, chief executive officer and president of Iconix Brand Group Inc and director on the board of Iconix Lifestyle India Private Limited.

We are committed to the company's continued growth, and this development allows us to operate directly in a rapidly growing industry and introduce this famous high-quality brand to a new audience."
