Indian Designer’s Haat will hold business-to-customer fairs in Raipur, Bilaspur, and Vizag in 2023. These will be from January 27 to 29 at Raipur, from January 31 to February 1 at Bilaspur and from February 16 to 17 at Vizag.

The Raipur fair will feature product categories including ethnic and occasion wear, jewellery, accessories, handbags, footwear, gift items, and more, made by independent brands and designers from both the local area and across the country. The Bilaspur fashion fair will feature a similar product selection to its Raipur edition with a number of more local brands in the mix.With a mix of occasion and traditional wear and fusion style everyday wear, the Vizag event will give brands a platform from which to reach new customers, build brand cognisance, and launch their latest designs to a sizeable crowd.

Indian Designer’s Haat is a multi-brand fashion and handicrafts fair that promotes independent designers from across the country and celebrates traditional crafts.

The fairs are attended by buyers, wholesalers, dealers, manufacturers, corporate decision makers, marketing professionals and the media. The multi-brand events mix festive collection launches with product demonstrations and entertainment. The highest spending shoppers are rewarded with silver coins and a number of other promotions also feature.

The events are organised by Fayre Media which is based in Kolkata and is a specialist in Indian fashion fairs.

Flipkart will hold the End Of Season Sale from December 7 to 12, 2022. The e-commerce giant will host over 2,00,000 sellers, and more than 10,000 brands, and aims to serve about 20,000 pin codes.

The EOSS will focus on winter apparel, wedding collections, ethnic wear, women’s wear, children's clothing, lifestyle accessories, and beauty products.

For the EOSS, the online retailer has taken an omnichannel initiative and partnered with more than 5000 stores of 200 brands offering to host their offline exclusive catalog on Flipkart's platform.

While Flipkart will enable consumers to discover and shop from local seller stores online, it will help sellers with faster delivery through its pan-India robust supply chain. More than 50 percent of customers at Flipkart are from Tier II and Tier III cities.

Flipkart will host an upgraded version of its live commerce, image search, and video catalog features. More than five million Flipkart shoppers have used the image search feature. Consumers using the image search option have the tendency to convert by 1.8 times.

And some 50 million-odd customers have engaged in Flipkart’s live commerce feature. The type of verticals and products within a fashion that Flipkart sells during a June end-of-season sale is very different from that during a December sale.

Some 600 handloom clusters in India have been given financial assistance. This includes upgraded looms and accessories, lighting units, worksheds, design and product development, marketing support etc.

From international runways to museums to celebrity weddings, it is handloom all the way. Handloom is 70 per cent of finished garments in the apparel industry. While handloom purchase has gone up more than 100 per cent in the last decade it is developing itself in terms of product innovation. Handloom has taken over bling and people prefer handloom outfits even for their own weddings.

Several Indian states promote their traditional and indigenous textiles on national and international platforms. West Bengal, Manipur, Assam, Telengana and Madhya Pradesh are concentrating on developing state-owned brands. These initiatives to rebrand state handloom with design intervention from fashion designers and monetary support from the government is reviving fabrics like Pochompally, Baluchari, Narayanpet, Kutch Kala Cotton and Muga.

Fashion designer Gaurang Shah’s entire collection is handloom. His paithani silk lehengas are a classic example of pure handloom bridal outfits. Designer Sanjay Garg has dressed celebrities like Sonam Kapoor and Soha Ali Khan. His handloom pieces have grabbed the attention of fashionistas across the world. For Garg handloom is sustainable fashion.

India’s consumer price index (CPI)-based retail inflation dropped to 6.77 per cent in October 2022 from 7.41 per cent in September 2022.

The wholesale price index (WPI) fell to a 19-month low, primarily due to subdued rates of food items. The CPI for clothing and footwear rose to 181 in October from 179.9 in September. While retail inflation is the lowest in three months, wholesale inflation declined for the fifth consecutive month.

Prices of commodities like crude oil, iron ore and steel have sobered in global markets. This, coupled with measures taken by the government to rationalise tariff structures of major inputs to augment domestic supply, helped keep cost-push inflation in consumer items under control.

Further, the government has taken trade-related measures on wheat and rice to keep domestic supplies steady and curb the rise in prices. The impact of these measures is expected to be felt more significantly in the coming months. The decline in October inflation was primarily contributed by the fall in prices of mineral oils, basic metals, fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment, textiles, other non-metallic mineral products, and minerals.

Polyester-cotton, poly spun and recycled polyester prices have witnessed a steep fall in India.

Indian exporters witnessed a 100 percent growth in their business on Amazon. Amazon’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday (BFCM) sale events were held from November 24 to 28, 2022.

Under Amazon’s global selling initiative, sellers from India sold on Amazon’s global marketplaces like North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia, Japan, and Singapore.With Amazon global selling, entrepreneurs of all sizes from across India can leverage Amazon’s investments in logistics and infrastructure to cater to customers across the world.

Amazon aims at enabling $20 billion in cumulative exports from India by 2025. To onboard sellers to its global selling program, Amazon has reduced the subscription fee for new exporters and has witnessed a 50 percent jump in new seller sign-ups on the program.Amazon’s global selling program was launched in India in 2015 to help Indian exporters reach customers worldwide through Amazon’s international websites and marketplaces. The company has more than 100, 000 exporters across India on the program.

During Amazon’s Great Indian Festival (AGIF) this year more than 80 per cent of new customers were from smaller towns.Customers got access to crores of product selections from sellers including unique items from lakhs of small and medium businesses. More than 35,000 sellers saw their highest-ever single-day sales; over 650 sellers became crorepatis and 23,000 sellers became lakhpatis.

The Khadi India Pavilion at the India International Trade Fair garnered a huge response. The pavilion showcased premium khadi garments and village industry products produced by khadi artisans in rural surroundings.

Muslin khadi from West Bengal, Pashminas from Jammu and Kashmir, Patola silks from Gujarat, Banarasi silks, Bhagalpuri silks, Phulkari from Punjab, Kalamkari from Andhra Pradesh, and many other types of cotton, silk, and woollen products were showcased in the fair and purchased by visitors in large amounts.

Supply orders for various products were received by the entrepreneurs. There was a huge participation of more than 200 stalls by khadi artisans and entrepreneurs and representatives of small-scale industries with artisan art, cultural diversity, and traditional crafts of the country. There was a live demonstration of the charkha spinning activity, cotton to yarn making, pottery making, agarbatti making, and other activities.

Artisans and participants were given certificates and thanked for their participation in the trade fair.

India International Trade Fair was held in New Delhi, from November 14 to 27, 2022.

This was the first trade fair organized since the Covid outbreak. High priority was given to women artisans giving 36 percent of the total stalls to women, which was confined to just 20 percent of women’s participation in 2019.

MTMM fabric fair will be held in Mumbai, January 9 to 10, 2023.

The B2B fabric fair will remain open free of cost for traders, garment manufacturers, retailers, fashion designers, buying agent houses, importers – exporters, brokers, tailors, boutiques, fashion forecasters and fashion institutes. A large number of traders are expected to visit the fair. A footfall of around 10,000 to 12,000 trade visitors is expected during the two days of the fair.

As the fair will be held in January, it will have a wide display of summer collections, wedding collections, fabrics for Ramzan as well as school uniforms. The fabrics on display will include a wide range of fabrics for formals, casuals, ethnic, children’s wear, shirtings, suitings, kurta-kurti fabrics, dress materials as well as a wide range of dhotisand saris and cotton fabrics, blended fabrics, handlooms, pure linen, pure silk, art silk, men’s and women’s interlinings, Banarasi fabrics, modal, bamboo and tencel, embroidered fabrics, hand dyed and dyeable fabrics, digital-block-screen prints, fabrics for women’s western wear, bottom wear, unstitched dress materials, fancy jacquards, fancy dupattas as well as a wide range of imported fabrics and combo packs.

Vinit Kumar is the CEO, of Khadi & Village Industries Commission. He has served as the chairman of Syama Prasad Mukherjee Port, Kolkata, Chief Electrical Engineer in Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation, and looked after the World Bank-funded MUTP project.

He has worked in the Central Railway in Mumbai’s suburban system, one of the densest suburban systems in the world, in maintenance and operations of rolling stock and traction installations. He has also worked in Pune and Nagpur in independent charge of traction assets and locomotive workshops.

As chairman of Syama Prasad Mukherjee Port, Kumar played a pivotal and dynamic role for the port in achieving the highest cargo handling for two consecutive years which surpassed all previous records in the 150-year history of the port. In addition to cargo handling, the port achieved profitability of Rs 60 crores for the first time due to his thoughtful and energetic leadership.

He played a key role in infrastructure development and capacity augmentation. Under his guidance, SMP Kolkata handled cape vessels through trans loading at deep sea anchorages. He has been instrumental in the growth of regional connectivity comprising neighbouring countries and the northeast region.

He has focused on building business relations with Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Thailand through various strategic initiatives.
