Fashion and apparel have officially been crowned Europe's most popular categories for online shopping, according to the "Europe Clothing B2C E-Commerce Market 2021" report.

Designed to provide insights into possible future developments of the industry, the report focuses on forecasted market values, consumers' preferences and intentions, and technological trends.

According to its accompanying survey, clothing ranked first in future online shopping preferences in Spain and second in the UK and Germany.

In Russia clothing and shoes were the dominant choice for cross-border online shopping, while domestic B2C e-commerce sales clothing and shoes were the second most important category in 2020.

Amazon, ASOS, and eBay were also the most commonly visited fashion websites in the UK, where B2C textile, apparel, and footwear e-commerce growth is expected to reach nearly a quarter in 2021 as a result of the country’s lockdowns.

As one might expect, online-only retailers are fast becoming the leading choice for purchasing apparel online in European countries, as well.

In Germany, B2C e-commerce sales in the apparel category showed the highest year-over-year growth in the first quarter of 2021, leading to other categories.

Along with the men’s and women’s festive collection, Singhal has brought along best sellers from previous collections to the pop-up shop to give Dubai’s shoppers a chance to browse the lines.

The designer’s new collection ‘Suroor’ features a wide array of occasion wear for the winter wedding season along with versatile fusion-style garments.

Heavy embroidery featuring flora and fauna, delicate chiffon, metallic polka dots, and the brand’s signature tassel details create a more refined take on Singhal’s classic bohemian style. Men’s wear includes tailored sherwanis, women’s wear features saris and sets and colors include royal blue, silver, pastel pink, and champagne.

Singhal is the eponymous label established in 1999 and is built on the cornerstones of modern contemporary Indian wear. The designer is the go-to choice for the modern bride.

As Dubai has a large Indian ex-pat community, it is a popular destination for Indian luxury brands to hold pop-up shops. Travel restrictions caused by the pandemic caused a hiatus for shopping events but the country is beginning to allow international pop-ups once again.

The Indian Army has partnered with the National Institute of Fashion Technology to design new combat uniforms for soldiers which will be unveiled for the first time during the Army Day Parade on January 15.

The new ‘Battle Dress Uniform’ design for the Indian Army features disruptive digital patterns and have been developed with the aim of being comfortable to wear in different kinds of terrains.

Due to security reasons, the newly designed fabric will be issued to army units directly and will not be available in the retail market, Financial Express reported.

The Indian Army plans to issue an open tender to both the private and public sector businesses for the mass manufacturing and supply of the uniforms.

The dress will be distributed to the army’s 13 lakh personnel. The new uniform will focus on lightweight, technical textiles as opposed to its previous Terrycot but it will retain its classic colour palette of greens and earth tones. Rank designations and belt styles are expected to be changed.

The Indian Army’s uniform has been changed three times before, most recently in 2005. NIFT is a fashion design education institute which was founded under the government Ministry of Textiles in 1986. NIFT has campuses in numerous Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad, among others.

Rainush by Govind Kumar Singh and JayanthiBallal launched traditional wear collections with a twist at Bangalore Times Fashion Week.

Rainush by Govind Kumar Singh subverted the idea of a sustainable fashion aesthetic by eschewing the usual neutral tones and loose silhouettes consumers tend to associate with sustainable design.

The designer instead presented a bright and opulent fusion wear collection for men and women. Men’s suits, women’s gowns, and fusion-style sets were fabricated from industrial waste, recycled materials, and organic elements.

The color palette ranged from jewel tones to aquatic hues and the collection had a playful feel. JayanthiBallal’s collection of saris celebrated silk textiles and highlighted craft techniques including zardosi, zari, and cutdana.

Saris with metallic borders, golden details, and delicate patterns were paired with classic-style blouses and statement maangtikas for an elegant, timeless appeal.

Bangalore Times Fashion Week ran from December 28 to 29, 2021, and was live streamed on Flipkart’s mobile app for free viewing. This edition was the fashion week’s sixth to date and this season its focus was on more sustainable and ethical fashion.

The second show of the day on the final day of Bangalore Times Fashion Week saw brands Rainush by Govind Kumar Singh and Jayanthi Ballal launch traditional wear collections with a twist.

Jayanthi Ballal’s collection of sarees celebrated silk textiles and highlighted craft techniques including zardosi, zari, and cutdana. Sarees with metallic borders, golden details, and delicate patterns were paired with classic-style blouses and statement maang tikas for an elegant, timeless appeal.

Ballal’s showstopper was Kannada actor Suraj Gowda who wore a deep red jacket with gold detailing and a statement choker.
