Value fashion retailer Vishal Mega Mart reported a 14 per cent Y-o-Y revenue expansion to Rs 3,398.5 crore during Q2, FY27, propelled by consistent footfalls across non-metro markets. Apparel sales remained the central growth driver, generating over 40 per cent of overall top-line revenue. Operating margins experienced a temporary 80 basis point compression to 7.7 per cent, largely attributed to minimum wage revisions, pre-festive logistics overheads, and the calendar shift of major festive shopping periods into the subsequent quarter.
Network scaling unlocks regional volume gains
Despite macro-headwinds and rising operational costs, the retail chain continues to leverage its hyper-local footprint to capture market share in Tier-II and Tier-III urban centers. Adjusting for the holiday timing shift, normalized same-store sales growth reached approximately 9 per cent.
Value-focused apparel platforms in non-metro hubs are insulating their top-line by maintaining essential price points even as operating expenses rise, noted Rajesh Kulkarni, Senior Retail Director, Asian Commerce Research. Volume-driven apparel inventory turns remain the key anchor for operating profitability, he adds.
Expanding across Tier II, III& IV markets
Vishal Mega Mart operates as a leading Indian hypermarket chain specializing in affordable apparel, general merchandise, and FMCG products. Targeting middle-income and regional shoppers, the enterprise aggressively expands its physical footprint across Tier-II, III & IV markets. Generating over Rs 3,300 crore quarterly revenues, the brand traces its commercial origins back to 1986.
